Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between poetry and society as indicated by the creativity of poets. Poetry is an age-long form of art; it has existed across communities and cultures. Through its capacity to combine the beauty of expression and the power of depiction, generations of poets, literary scholars, and readers have come to interpret and/or misinterpret the place of poetry in the world’s social context. Has poetry always been relevant? Is it still relevant? The answer to both questions is yes. Thus, this paper argues that the office of the poet and the art of poetry are as important as ever because of the social merits of its aesthetics and gravitas.
